The Black Sea Coast of Bulgaria has long been known as a top tourist destination; it's cheap, sunny, and gorgeous. Even the communist regime couldn't scare away the holiday-makers; people nicknamed it the "Red Riviera" until the government changed hands in 1989.
These days much of its beauty is covered by enormous resorts and the usual grid of beach umbrellas fanning out in front of them. However, on a coast this long, there are plenty of in-between beaches where umbrellas, so far, fear to tread. Soon Brett and I will head out from Sofia in quest of these in-betweens, so my current Bulgaria hobby is to peruse the black sea coast sections of various guidebooks and internet sites. Sozopol, Nessebar, and Sinovorets are looking pretty attractive so far... (pictures above, definitely not taken by me!).
